Applying the face paint

It is time to get painting. The skulls were give a coat of acrylic primer.

Once dry, the skulls were used as templates for the holes to be drilled in the lid for the wires to the LEDs to pass through.

Before priming the lid, the three power LED covers and the ‘Rock’ logo needed to be masked off - this was done using Maskol. This is a liquid latex solution designed specifically for masking small and intricate details.

The lid was then primed and the skulls readied for detail painting.

Firstly, shadow areas were airbrushed on to the skulls and then the details added using a combination of brushes, airbrushing and dry brushing.

The skulls were put aside to dry - the finer details like blood would be added later.
